We're a growing specialist school in central Wakefield who provides education for young people aged 11 to 19 with complex care needs including behaviours that challenge and learning disabilities, often in association with autism spectrum conditions. We work hard to ensure students have a superb enriched educational experience inclusive of holistic and supportive environment, enabling them to flourish and develop in all aspects of life.
We are currently looking to recruit a number of experienced SEN Teachers.
The Role
As an excellent Class Teacher, your role will be to provide high quality teaching that will enable pupils to make progress not just academically but socially and emotionally.
Class sizes are small (up to 8 students), highly supported by some great Teaching Assistants (typically 1:1) and complimented by a superb therapy team.
The role will give you the opportunity to showcase your creativity as you'll support the planning and delivery of a very broad and balanced curriculum to enable our pupils to achieve their full potential in all areas.
To facilitate this, you'll plan and deliver lessons across a number of subjects that support young people achieving accreditation, building self-esteem and confidence
You'll supervise and provide support and guidance to our support staff and play a key role in their Professional Development Reviews.
Naturally, you will take responsibility for implementing school policies and practices, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity. Additionally, you will also be expected to carefully monitor the health, well-being and personal care of our pupils; informing Pastoral/Clinical/ SEND support teams and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Skills & Qualifications
Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:
Qualified Teacher Status
Experience in achieving outstanding outcomes
Thorough working knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt this for pupils with SEN
Experience of working with young people with ASD
Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
Ability to create and maintain strong nurturing relationships with young people
Experience of managing a range of approaches to learning, to include the students with anxiety.
Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners.
A flexible approach, a high level of creativity and the ability to adapt teaching to meet individual needs
