Principle purpose of the role
To support the learning, development, and wellbeing of pupils with Special Educational Needs by working closely with teaching staff and therapists. The Teaching Support Assistant will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching by supporting individuals and small groups in accessing the curriculum, promoting independence, and fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities
Support for pupils
- Provide learning, care, and emotional support to pupils in line with individual education, health, and care plans (EHCPs).
- Build warm, trusting relationships with pupils, encouraging positive engagement and interaction.
- Assist pupils with personal care, emotional wellbeing, and other daily routines as required.
- Encourage pupils to participate in learning activities and promote their confidence and independence.
- Recognise and celebrate pupil progress and achievements.
Support for teaching
- Assist the class teacher in delivering planned learning activities and preparing resources.
- Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning objectives.
- Contribute to behaviour support and classroom routines in line with school policies.
- Record observations and provide feedback on pupil progress to teaching staff.
- Help to maintain an organised, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
Support for the curriculum
- Use a variety of strategies and tools to support pupils’ access to learning.
- Help adapt learning materials and activities to suit pupils’ needs and interests.
- Make use of assistive technologies and communication aids where appropriate.
- Take a lead or supporting role in an area of school development as directed by the school leadership team.
Support for the school ethos and community
- Promote a culture of inclusion, respect, and high expectations for all pupils.
- Uphold school policies on safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, parents, and external professionals.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and development opportunities.
- Support school events, off-site visits, and enrichment activities as needed.
