Based in the heart of Birmingham, St George's School Edgbaston is a small, selective entrance mainstream Independent School with an excellent reputation for working with students with SEND.
At St George’s School, we place children and young people at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking for a passionate and dedicated SENCO to join our team.
As SENCO, you will take on a pivotal role in determining the strategic development of SEND policy and provision across the school. You will have day-to-day responsibility for coordinating SEND support, ensuring each pupil's specific needs are understood and met.
Your role will be central to ensuring that SEND provision is inclusive at all levels. You will ensure the school’s practices align with the SEND Code of Practice, including the legal framework surrounding SEND provisions, and you will work closely with teachers, families, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for our pupils.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee the strategic development of SEND provision in the school.
• Coordinate the day-to-day support for pupils with SEND, ensuring the correct provision is in place.
• Line management of support staff within the Inclusion Department.
• Implement and monitor the school’s SEND policy and SIR, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external agencies to support pupils’ individual needs.
• Develop and maintain relationships with families, offering advice, support, and guidance.
• Regularly analyse SEND data and provide clear, effective reports on progress.
• Coordinate Annual Reviews for students with EHCPs
• Supporting families through the EHCAR process when needed.
• Ensure the school’s provision for SEND is inclusive at all levels and supports pupils' educational, health, and social care needs.
• Coordinate and/or deliver training for the school wider staff with regards to the SEND profiles of students in our setting.
About You:
We are looking for someone with significant experience in working with children with SEND, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and SEMH needs. You should have a sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and be confident in its application.
You will be passionate about supporting pupils with SEND, demonstrating an ability to work with sensitivity and positivity to ensure every pupil can thrive. Strong skills in school improvement planning, monitoring, and reviewing progress are essential, along with the ability to analyse SEND data and communicate your findings to both educational and non-educational staff.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
• Hold the NASENCo Award or be willing to train for the new NPQ for SENCOs.
• Experience working with children with SEND, including ASC.
• Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
• Experience in school improvement planning and progress monitoring.
• Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, families, and staff to create a supportive learning environment.
Salary from M4 £42,430.00 - UPS3 £53,994.00 plus SEN allowance £5009.00
