Job overview

SENCO

Full-time, to be responsible for both Special Educational Needs and Gifted and Talented and More Able students • Required from September 2017

€22,800 - €30,000 depending on experience + generous annual holidays and fee reduction for staff children

The Junior & Senior School is a not-for-profit International school for children aged 2-19, situated on two sites in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia. Our students are drawn from the local population (60%) and increasingly from the international community (40%). We follow a largely UK curriculum with some elements of IPC and prepare our older students for IGCSE and A levels.

We are seeking to recruit a full-time SENCO to be responsible for both Special Educational Needs and Gifted and Talented and More Able students.

This post requires a well-qualified, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, hardworking and energetic individual.

Candidates should have a qualification (undergraduate or postgraduate) in SEN (Special Educational Needs) and relevant teaching experience. The successful candidate should be fluent in the English language.

Areas of responsibility:

The purpose of this post is to support the learning of children with Special Educational Needs, both in terms of learning difficulties and those who are gifted, talented or more able. This may be as a result of a learning or processing difficulty, a physical disability or the fact that they have entered our school with limited knowledge of English, or in the case of the more able, identified by a high IQ. Each child will need an Individual Learning Programme which will be produced in consultation with parents, teachers and any necessary external experts. The child will then be supported throughout the year according to their individual need. The SENCO will oversee and coordinate this process using the human and physical resources available. The SENCO will be an outstanding and inspirational practitioner who is passionate about raising attainment through motivating and inspiring students and staff and hold the belief that all pupils are individuals with specific needs which the school should strive to meet.

The Junior & Senior School has:

· Ambitious, eager to learn students who have the benefit of both a comprehensive curriculum and extra curriculum programme;

· A safe, caring environment where respect and consideration is taught, established and valued by all;

· Warm and dedicated staff who are committed to their students;

· High quality facilities including two specialist music rooms and two drama studios, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, basketball and tennis courts and extended athletics facilities and futsals;

· Sports facilities available to staff out of hours, reduced fees for staff children and a vibrant CPD programme.

To apply, please fill in and submit the online application that can be found on the school’s website under Employment/Opportunities.  Web: www.thejuniorandseniorschool.com

For any further information please contact Mrs. Athena Zannetti at: azannetti@theseniorschool.com

Closing date: Friday, 5th May 2017.

The Junior & Senior School is committed to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children and young people, by adhering to the “Keeping Children Safe in Education” guidance. All staff and volunteers are trained regarding our expectations in keeping our students safe. A police check is required for every post.

The Senior School Nicosia is a co-educational international secondary school located in Nicosia, Cyprus. The school began life as a junior school in 1944 which, following a period of expansion, added a senior department in 2003.  The school is a not-for-profit organisation, receiving no government subsidy. The Senior School provides an international education for students aged 12-18, primarily in an English-language setting. The school moved onto its current site in 2016, in Latsia, on Nicosia’s outskirts, and as a result is able to boast of a huge variety of modern recreational and academic facilities such as multiple swimming pools and sports grounds, a modern recording studio, and dedicated performing arts facilities. In terms of curriculum, students traditionally enter The Senior School from its affiliated junior school, with the intention of studying for the iGCSE examination, followed by the two-year International Baccalaureate exam, an internationally-accredited pre-university qualification. In accordance with the IB curriculum, the school offers a huge number of enrichment opportunities for its students, including a model United Nations, the European Youth Parliament, and a large number of residential trips.
