We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic SENCO with a proven track record of raising achievement for different groups of students through a wide range of support and intervention strategies. The successful candidate will strategically direct and co-ordinate provision for students with a range of additional needs in SEN.

The SENCO will serve on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). SLT members are responsible for co-ordinating and leading major areas of school life, and, by working with colleagues, ensuring that all school policies work in a coherent manner to maintain and improve the quality of provision we offer all students. As such, SLT members make a major contribution to setting and maintaining standards in the school.

The SENCO will oversee the SEND provision. The team includes the SEND Administrators and LSA’s.

You will be used to working at both operational and strategic levels. They will have high level interpersonal skills and be a confident motivator of colleagues. They will need to demonstrate determination and an ability to utilise creative ways of working. Excellent communication skills are a must, as is the ability to influence and gain the confidence of a wide group of stakeholders including teachers, associate staff, the Governing Body and external bodies.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a school environment providing support, assistance and guidance to students. SENCO qualification is essential.

The Appleton School has a large SEND Department and has always placed great importance on high quality SEND provision. In our recent Ofsted – February 2019 they stated ‘Leaders use additional funding to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) well. They have strong systems in place to ensure pupils’ successful transition from primary to secondary school. They work closely with parents and carers. Leaders know what pupils’ strengths and needs are. They give teachers information and guidance on how to address these and monitor the impact of teachers’ work with pupils. This ensures that pupils’ progress is not hindered by their individual needs’.

At the heart of The Appleton School is an environment where we want both students and staff to aspire to be the best they can be, in everything they do. The school is a strong, caring community with a curriculum intent based on the three key aims of supporting students to achieve; providing opportunities for enrichment in order to extend students' education within and beyond the classroom; preparing students for the wider world and life beyond school with key life skills and learning relevant to their life, both in the present and in the future.
