The Post 

This is an exciting opportunity to join an energetic, forward-thinking, high-achieving, friendly working environment. We are a small school where students enjoy learning. We seek to appoint a part-time, experienced SENCO, who will work in partnership with, and advise SLT in the decision-making and leadership of SEND across the School. 

The individual will work throughout the School from Year 3 to Year 11, including providing some teaching support. They will be expected to make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the School. We are seeking a proactive, positive person who embraces the school values. 

 

The ideal candidate will have: 

• Qualified Teacher Status 

• An excellent knowledge and understanding of the statutory requirements of the SEND Code of Practice and practical application strategies for meeting the special educational needs of pupils 

• Experience of working with children with SEND and EHCPs 

• Experience of Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 

• Experience of working with children who have additional social, emotional and/or mental health needs 

• The ability to form strong partnerships with parents and offer them the support, advice, and the reassurance they often seek in ensuring their child’s needs are being met. 

• Confidence in the use of data to analyse and evaluate performance, presenting information to a variety of audiences 

• A high standard of written and verbal communication skills 

• Excellent organisational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines 

• The ability to form effective working partnerships with multi-agency professionals 

• Have resilience and the ability to work under pressure

Main Areas of Responsibility 

• To ensure that the School is working within the SEND Code of Practice. 

• To maintain the register and tracking systems for all students on the SEN profile. 

• To ensure that there is a rigorous and accurate assessment process for identification of need. 

• To ensure that all staff are aware of and understand student need so that they are able to deliver high quality teaching. This includes developing a relevant programme of CPD. 

• To have oversight over all SEN interventions, ensuring that they directly target student need, are outcome focuses. This includes access arrangements. 

• To manage and arrange the appointments for external services to meet with students and families. Eg. Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist. 

• To ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with the parents of students through phone, letter and website as relevant. 

• Providing and maintaining relevant communication links with medical, social and other external agencies e.g. CAMHS (Children Adolescent Mental Health Service) 

• To support the organisation of review meetings as appropriate ensuring all external agencies and relevant staff are invited. Preparing paperwork as appropriate updating documents where required. Provide regular progress updates to the Head and SLT 

• Provide reports to governors in relation to SEND and regularly meet with named governor to discuss provision and policy 

• The day-to-day management and operation of SEN provision within the School, including effective deployment of staff and physical resources and liaison with external agencies to support progress towards outcomes

About North London Grammar School

North London Grammar School is a mixed, non-denominational, 7-18, independent Prep and Secondary school, situated in Hendon in London.

In 2006, the school was opened as Wisdom School in Tottenham, Haringey, with provision for 100 students. It then moved to a new site in Hendon with state-of-the-art design and technology, and adopted the new name North London Grammar School.
