About Us

Teenage Kicks is a specialist independent school providing tailored education for young people aged 11–16 who require an alternative to mainstream provision. Our ethos of Engagement, Progress, Outcomes underpins everything we do. We deliver a personalised curriculum, small class sizes, and a highly supportive environment focused on emotional wellbeing, academic progress, and life skills.

We are now seeking a highly skilled, passionate and proactive SENCO with teaching responsibilities to join our expanding leadership team.

The Role

This is a dual role combining strategic SEND leadership with classroom teaching, primarily in English at KS3 and KS4. You may also be required to teach additional subjects where appropriate.

You will be responsible for leading SEND provision across the school, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice, coordinating interventions, supporting staff, and ensuring every learner receives the tailored support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

SEND Leadership

  • Lead, coordinate and monitor SEND provision across the school.

  • Oversee EHCP processes, annual reviews, provision mapping and interventions.

  • Assess pupil needs and work with staff to implement high-quality support strategies.

  • Train, coach and support staff in best practice for SEND and SEMH.

  • Liaise effectively with external professionals, local authorities and parents/carers.

  • Ensure school-wide compliance with statutory duties and the SEN Code of Practice.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach English to KS3 and KS4 pupils (including GCSE), with high-quality planning and delivery.

  • Deliver additional subjects where needed and adapt learning for a range of abilities.

  • Use assessment and feedback to drive pupil progress.

  • Build strong relationships and support pupils with SEMH needs to engage in learning.

Pastoral & Behaviour

  • Support the pastoral team to implement effective behaviour support plans.

  • Use de-escalation and restorative approaches to manage behaviour.

  • Contribute to the safeguarding culture of the school.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A qualified SENCO (NASENCO required or in progress).

  • An experienced teacher, ideally with strong English subject knowledge.

  • Skilled at supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND and complex needs.

  • Confident in leading SEND strategies and driving whole-school improvement.

  • Resilient, compassionate, organised and committed to inclusion.

  • A strong communicator who can work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies.

What We Offer

  • Small class sizes and an inclusive, nurturing environment.

  • A supportive leadership and pastoral team.

  • Opportunities for CPD and leadership development.

  • A chance to make a transformative difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.

  • A forward-thinking school with a strong ethos of engagement, progress and positive outcomes.
