Job overview
The SENCo, under the direction of the headteacher, will:
· Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school.
· Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability.
· To work in partnership with the Deputy Headteacher for Inclusion to keep under review the deployment of support staff to meet the needs of children both in their mainstream classes as well as in the three specialist provision classes for children with autism.
· Provide leadership to the three specialist provision classes for children with autism, to ensure a strong curriculum offer that links with the wider curriculum across the school and to ensure that opportunities are maximized for children to be prepared to transition into mainstream when they are ready to do so.
· Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies.
· The SENCo will be expected to fulfil the responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the current Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document.
Visits to the school are strongly encouraged.
