Solihull Academy is an AP free school, opened in April 2018, catering to 110+ Year 9 -11 pupils that ensures all pupils across the Local Authority have access to a high-quality alternative educational provision.

Due to the growth of the Academy, expansion of age range to include Years 7 and 8 and a rapid growth in student numbers, we are seeking to appoint a committed and dynamic SENDCo to join our supportive, ambitious team from September 2021.

We are seeking someone who is passionate about Special Educational Needs and is able to work in close partnership with Academy staff, parents / carers, outside agencies and professionals. The right candidate will be an experienced, strategic leader and will be required to work across two sites and over four provisions within the Academy.

You will be able to demonstrate:

• Commitment to Special Educational Needs and advocacy for pupils and their families

• Passion for working with and safeguarding the most vulnerable and high-tariff pupils

• Significant experience of supporting pupils with SEND including identification and assessment of pupil need

• Experience of leading a team of support staff

• Resilience, focus, tenacity and adaptability in order to work across different provisions and staff teams.

The Academy team is determined to give our pupils the best opportunities possible to become successful, responsible citizens with the best life chances. This is a critical appointment for us and our students and is an exciting opportunity for you to develop as a school leader whilst working in an aspirational, therapeutic and innovative environment with pupils who need you.

Application forms should be completed in full and sent, along with letter of application, to Mr S Steinhaus, Solihull Academy, The Quadrangle, Cranmore Avenue, Shirley, Solihull B90 4LE, or via email HR@sa.solihull.sch.uk.  Only applications submitted on Solihull Academy Application forms will be considered.

Solihull Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all Staff to share this commitment.  A compulsory enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

"Open a school", they said...so we did...

"It’ll be great", they said...And it was, but also the toughest thing professionally any of us have done.

"So many pupils need something different", they said... and they were correct... our students did and do need something different.

Since April 18 we have been on a journey to use the idea of “Alternative” in Alternative Provision as a driver to create a new school for the most vulnerable pupils in the local authority, and the impact and results tell us we are making a real difference.  Prior to our opening our local authority permanently excluded more secondary students than 90% of the rest of the country despite being the wealthiest borough in the West Midlands. So, in a unique partnership between the Local Authority, mainstream school and ourselves, we built a school, provision and curriculum to combat that and ensure the best possible outcomes for highest tariff students in the local authority.  We have developed our school based on 4 specific targets:

-Prevent PEX

-Fewer FTE

-Beat Baseline and/or KS2 targets

-No NEETS

Every decision we make and every action we take is based on these four targets and absolutely child-focused and, from that simple premise, we have created our Academy.  If you are looking for a new challenge and have unconditional positive regard, emotional resilience and utter belief that every child deserves a better future, then maybe we  and, more importantly, our students need you as part of TeamSA.

Solihull Alternative Provision Multi Academy Trust:  Let's go to work!
