We are looking for a SEND Intervention Lead to provide personalised online support to individual students, and potentially small groups, with special educational needs and disabilities. This will involve planning and delivering intervention programmes and supporting the students by helping them to develop the skills to become more independent learners.
Contract Type: Part-time - 0.6 of full-time, 22.5 hours per week
Salary: £12,600 (£21,000 full-time equivalent)
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver differentiated interventions - 1 to 1 initially with a view to small group as necessary
- Monitor, record and report on progress
- Build positive relationships with students, promoting high self-esteem and independence
- Promote a good work ethic, encouraging students to engage fully with online education
- Provide students with skills to become more independent learners
- Support students with their social, emotional and mental health needs if necessary, and escalating concerns where appropriate
- Keep other professionals accurately informed about performance, progress and any areas of concern
- Help keep own knowledge and understanding relevant and up to date by reflecting on own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Maths
- Level 3 qualification in an appropriate discipline (such as Supporting Teaching and learning in Schools)
Desirable
- HLTA Level 4 Certificate
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Any other relevant SEND training
Experience
Essential
- Working in a school environment or other educational setting
- Working with young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
- Planned and delivered learning activities and/or interventions
Desirable
- Working for an online education provider
- Creating personalised intervention programmes and resources
- Delivered interventions for students with a wide range of needs, including literacy, numeracy, working memory, organisation, communication, self-esteem
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Strategies to support students with a range of SEND, including ASD, Dyslexia and ADHD
- Ability to create and adapt resources to match students' needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Knowledge of requirements around safeguarding children
- Good ICT skills
Desirable
- Familiar with the assess, plan, do, review graduated approach to SEND support
- Ability to evaluate students' progress in line with Education Health and Care Plans or SEND Support Plans

How Pupils Learn
Minerva Virtual Academy is underpinned by ‘four pillars’. These are: a virtual learning platform, live lessons, mentoring and community. As part of this offer, all pupils receive weekly one-to-one mentoring sessions and, through the virtual learning platform, can communicate with their mentors at any time. Community plays a key role at Minerva Virtual Academy. Pupils attend weekly assemblies and can participate in a wide range of after-school clubs.
The curriculum at Minerva Virtual Academy is delivered through a ‘flipped learning’ model. This involves pupils undertaking interactive self-study on the virtual learning platform before attending live lessons.
Alongside the taught curriculum, pupils participate in an extensive well-being programme. Designed to support pupils’ personal and academic growth, wellbeing sessions help pupils manage their own health, relationships, emotional intelligence and communication skills.
