This is a rare chance to lead and develop SEND policy and practice in a three times-outstanding special school in a brand new building with excellent facilities. We are an outward-facing school that takes a leading role in the Hackney Teaching School Alliance. Please read the personal message from the Headteacher and look up our website http://www.stormonthouse.hackney.sch.uk

Stormont House School is an unusual and widely-respected special school that had its third ‘outstanding’ inspection in March 2014. Almost all of our students have been in mainstream primary schools before coming here at secondary transfer and have a wide range of Learning, Speech, Language & Communication and Emotional Needs (see information for parents, carers and professionals). They achieve very highly and progress to FE or other providers either directly or via our innovative Sixth Form.

This position will play a vital part in leading us towards our vision of ‘Achievement for All in a Unique World-Class School’. We need someone that can square the circle on person-centred planning, high-quality teaching & learning and effective professional development. We’re looking for someone that can help us become so good in this field that others come to our door to learn from and adapt our practice. If you are also a first-class teacher and passionate about the difference an excellent school can make to young people’s ability to learn, express themselves and become active global citizens, please get in touch.

We offer a diverse and vibrant curriculum, including the National Curriculum, which is tailored to meet students’ needs by exciting, supporting and challenging them. We expect our students to make the best progress possible; socially, emotionally and academically.

We set out to combine the very positive aspects of primary education with the specialist subjects of secondary in order to provide the best quality education possible. This position is a vital part of the Extended Leadership Team and affects the practice of every member of staff working with students.

Please look at the uploaded documents and ring the Headteacher, Kevin McDonnell on (020) 8985 4245 for an informal discussion about the position. Don’t worry if you don’t have special school experience: very few of us did before we came here!

School visits on Wednesday 03 May (morning) and Thursday 04 May (afternoon). Please call Brenda Vanriel on 020 8985 4245 to book a space.

Closing date for receipt of emailed applications is 9am Monday 15th May
Interviews: w/c 22nd May 2017

About Stormont House School

Stormont House School is an exceptional and widely-respected special school whose pupils achieve up to GCSE/BTEC levels. We became one of the first outstanding schools in the country in 2005 and have improved at each of the 4 full inspections since then (most recently in 2018). We were in the first group of special schools to receive the World-Class Schools Quality Mark and work with other schools as a National Support School and as a lead school within the Hackney Teaching Schools’ Alliance.
