SGS Berkeley Green UTC opened in September 2017 with an initial intake of 150 students at year 10 and 12, building to a maximum capacity of 660 in five years’ time. As the first University Technical College (UTC) in Gloucestershire, Berkeley Green aspires to combine outstanding academic and technical education. Over the next few years we will become a centre of excellence for Engineering, Digital Technology and Cyber Security in our region and the institution of choice for young people looking for careers in technology.

UTCs are a new educational route for 14–19 year-olds and provide students with the best opportunity for a fulfilling career in STEM. As a UTC, we teach students academic and technical subjects in a centre that mirrors professional expectations, working with our industrial partners, GE Aviation, BAE Systems and Atkins to name a few. We are supporting our students to become the wealth creators and idea generators of the future, preparing them for industry, apprenticeships and university and jobs which have yet to be imagined.

Our educational vison can only be realised with an outstanding group of staff: professionals who have a passion for their subject and the ability to link learning to the real world; a proven level of excellence in the classroom; and exceptional drive and interpersonal skills.

In our first year we have got off to a great start. If you are committed to our vision, and flexible and innovative in your approach, then this is your opportunity to join us on our journey.

Values and Vision

SGS Berkeley Green UTC plans for excellence in the delivery of its curriculum and has high expectations of academic results ending up in the top quartile when compared to other UTCs and schools.

The school believes combining an environment of school life and the broader vocational opportunities of college education provides the best of both worlds for students. The school aspires to offer teaching by experienced teachers in a high quality learning environment that benefits from the close involvement of employers. It is hoped that this will ensure the college has more in common with a professional workplace setting, ideally setting students up for their chosen career.

The aim of the UTC is to make students more attractive to employers by allowing valuable interaction between the two, and by teaching relevant practical skills by holding workshops and work experience projects. The school will specialise in digital technology, advanced manufacturing and cyber security.

Our Students

An outstanding school provides a first class academic education. A great college must deliver excellent technical skills and meaningful links with employers and academic partners. At SGS Berkeley Green University Technical College, we provide the best of both worlds, setting our students on the path to a great career in digital technologies or engineering.

Our students are at the centre of everything we do at Berkeley Green UTC and we will support them through every step. From transition from their current school through their qualifications to securing their university place, apprenticeship or first taste of employment.

Berkeley Green UTC is committed to preparing all students for the world of work, not only by developing the knowledge, skills and understanding required by industry, but also by modelling and instilling the behaviours required for successful employment. An integral part of this is demonstrated by the way we dress, act and express ourselves. Professional behaviour is the norm at Berkeley Green UTC. This is reflected in the way that staff and students interact with each other and our employer and academic partners. For students, every day is a potential interview. Only by having the highest expectations of ourselves will we be able to reach our potential.

Our Employer Partners

Getting involved in UTC's offers employers the opportunity to ensure that the next generation has the expertise, employability skills and knowledge required to meet the future needs of business.

Project-based learning is a key focus for our curriculum learning model. All students at Berkeley Green UTC will engage in project-based learning, in which they will learn how to develop skills associated with good business and work activity, strong values associated with working collaboratively with their colleagues and employer partners in the Information Technology and Engineering sectors, and subject-specific knowledge, understanding and skills. We have identified the following as key attributes of a good project:

Our Staff
