Purpose of the Role
To plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the diverse needs of pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
About New Ways School
New Ways School provides tailored support for pupils with Autism, ADHD and other learning difficulties and disabilities, focusing on fostering their academic, social and emotional development.
Areas of focus include sensory integration strategies, social skills training and executive functioning support to help pupils manage time, focus and self-regulation.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-informed lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND and trauma histories.
Use assessment data to monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development through trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, consistent with the school’s behaviour policy and Staff Code of Conduct.
Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support
Requirements
Proven experience teaching pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour
Strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, and behaviour management in special education settings
Ability to plan, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning.
Commitment to professional conduct, safeguarding, and the Staff Code of Conduct.
Resilience, empathy, adaptability, and passion for supporting vulnerable pupils

Pupils
New Ways School is dedicated to pupils with Special Educational Needs, including ASD, ADHD, conduct disorders, attachment difficulties, global developmental delay, and moderate learning difficulties (MLDs). We use a therapeutic approach to help young people understand themselves, connect with others who have similar needs, and navigate the wider community. We also work closely with external agencies, including CAMHS, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, social workers, and Barnardo's, to further support our pupils’ well-being.
