Hours: 40 hours per week

Description:

Highgate Hill House School is an independent school with the aim of being the first-choice provider for young people aged 5-16 years with special educational needs in Devon and Cornwall. Our school received an Ofsted Good rating in 2017 and is located in a tranquil, countryside setting.

We are a small therapeutic school with 42 learners. We use a trauma-informed approach to improve the safety, learning, mental health and physical health of all our children and young people.

We offer excellent training and CPD opportunities. Our school is a learning community for staff and students, where everyone feels welcome, included and respected. Our success is measured by our student’s happiness and achievements in school and life.

We are keen to secure an amazing SEND Teacher to take on teaching Science to all of our learners. You will be given dedicated leadership time as part of your role as a curriculum lead, which will allow you to develop your subject area alongside your classroom teaching commitment. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher (and may also suit an ECT) to develop their expertise of SEND and work within a therapeutic educational provision alongside a therapy team. The successful candidate will provide supportive teaching and learning to students who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties, Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

This Lead role requires a Teacher who has the compassion and skillset to encourage their students and assist them to remove any barriers to learning.

The successful person for these roles will be:

  • Passionate about their specialist subject, and able to support others to teach it well.
  • Solution focussed and put the needs of the child at the heart of everything they do.
  • Someone who enjoys working with children and young people with emotional and mental health difficulties including those with challenging behaviour.
  • Someone who understands that behaviour is a form of communication and use this to anticipate, de-escalate and avoid de-regulations.
  • Able to reflect on experiences and give and receive feedback to improve.
  • Committed to eliminating discrimination, harassment and bullying and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

This role would be suitable for Senior Teachers, or Teachers who are looking to step up and take on some additional responsibility.

Actual pay will be dependent on experience.
