Job overview

We are currently working with a number of SEN schools across South Manchester, ranging from ASD,SLD, MLD,PMLD, who are looking to appoint SEN Teachers for a variety of day-to-day, short term and long term bookings.

It takes a very special person to work with pupils with complex needs. Class sizes can be as small as 3/4 pupils and there is a high ratio of LSA support. SLD/PMLD schools have pupils with complex needs, there may be pupils with degenerative illnesses, those who are completely non-verbal and communicate using basic signing tools like Makaton or through a series of lights and clickers. There may be pupils at the high end of the autism spectrum or with Cerebral Palsy. Ability levels can vary considerably. You'll be working with other professionals within the school, e.g. a nurse, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, etc.

The successful candidate should:

-Have knowledge/interest and experience working with Autism/ASD, ADHD, EBD, SLD, PMLD

-Be able to use positive reinforcement when supporting behaviour difficulties - working with pupils with ADHD this would be an advantage

-Be a patient and positive role model for children

The Vision for Education Special Needs department is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We work alongside a variety of Special Educational Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units. We provide day to day and long-term recruitment solutions for Teachers and Teaching Assistants.

We can offer our staff the opportunity to gain a further understanding of working in the SEN sector as we provide regular courses that prepare you for working with a variety of additional needs that will be certified upon completion. These include; British sign language L1 and Deaf Awareness, Autism Awareness, Team Teach, working with Attachment disorder and many more.
