Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Trimdon Hill School, Durham, TS29 6EY
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday–Friday (Monday: 8.30am–5.00pm | Tuesday: 8.30am–4.30pm | Wednesday: 8.30am–5.00pm | Thursday & Friday: 8.30am–4.00pm)
Salary: £22,160.62 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: September 2026

Due to our continued popularity and successful growth in pupil numbers, we are excited to be expanding our team and are now seeking an additional SEND Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and dedicated staff community.
Build a career where every day you help young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) achieve more than they ever imagined. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll be part of a warm, collaborative team dedicated to helping each learner feel safe, confident and ready to engage.
What You’ll Do
Supporting children and young people with SEND, including complex needs, to access learning and achieve personal goals
Assisting with engaging classroom, outdoor and enrichment activities tailored to individual needs
Providing emotional, behavioural and practical support to help pupils feel safe, valued and understood
Encouraging independence, communication, positive relationships and social development
Who We’re Looking For
GCSE Maths and English or equivalent at Grade C/4 or above required
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
A calm, compassionate, and proactive approach
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Willingness to learn and develop professionally
About Us
Trimdon Hill School is a brand-new independent specialist school in Trimdon Grange, County Durham, supporting pupils aged 4–11 with autism and associated complex needs. Opened in June 2025, we provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where every child is supported to SHINE. Our personalised, autism-informed curriculum develops communication, social interaction, and curiosity through rich, inclusive learning.
Working closely with families and clinical professionals, we support each child’s progress, independence, and readiness for the next stage of education.
For over 19 years, Options Autism has provided specialist care and education for children, young people, and adults with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties. As part of Outcomes First Group, we are pioneering innovative, evidence-based approaches that deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes for everyone in our care.
