Vision for Education, (the supply arm of TES and leading educational recruitment specialists) are looking to recruit a SENDCo for a Middle School based near Berwick-upon-Tweed. The position will start, in a full time capacity, from May 2017 covering a maternity.

To be considered for this role you must have the following experience and skill set:

  • Qualified teacher status
  • Evidence of further recent and relevant training undertaken in relevant areas
  • Up to date knowledge of SEN issues, including planned changes in SEN provision
  • Up to date understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • A clear vision and philosophy for education which is compatible with that of the school
  • Very effective classroom teacher - an excellent role model for other staff and pupils
  • Very effective leadership and management skills
  • Very effective assessment, target setting and data management skills
  • Very effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent behaviour management skills
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate teaching and learning
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop other staff

Job role and responsibilities:

  • To lead the support staff team in the school.
  • To lead the school through a period of change in the provision for children with Special Educational Needs and to play a role at local partnership level in designing and delivering change in arrangements for SEN support.
  • To ensure that appropriate provision is made for all children with Special Educational Needs within the school, including those with Statements of Special Needs, so that their needs are met and they make the best possible progress, in accordance with the school aims.
  • To take on the role of designated Child Protection Officer within the school (under the line management of the Deputy Head).
  • To champion the needs of pupil premium pupils within the school, ensuring that the pupil premium budget is spent effectively to support, engage and motivate pupil premium pupils so that they make above-average progress and the attainment gap between them and their peers is narrowed. Specifically, to organise, manage and help deliver an appropriate range of interventions to ensure SEN and pupil premium pupils make good progress and to co-ordinate the procurement and employment of appropriate resources to enable this to happen.
  • To ensure that SEN and pupil premium pupils have full access to extra-curricular opportunities and other activities that will motivate and engage them to make progress as individuals and with their learning.
  • To liaise with and advise the Headteacher over the effective management and spending of the SEN and pupil premium budgets to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • To recruit, train and manage staff to provide effective support and to deliver effective interventions.
