Job Purpose

Assisting the SENDCo and Deputy Head for Inclusion in the day-to-day operation of SEN policy with the aim of raising SEN pupil achievement.


Areas of Responsibility and Key Tasks

·       Assisting the SENDCO in leading provision for SEND students at Castles.

·       To support the SENCDO in managing the implementation of an inclusive curriculum.

·       Management and maintenance of Edukey provision map software including quality assuring that SEN learning plans/reviews are completed and effectively used, adding provisions.

·       Work with the SENDCO to resource the SEND department and ensure the resources are used effectively, efficiently and safely.

·       Maintain effective lines of communication with parents and all other agencies with regards to allocated students on the SEND register; including the completion of referral forms and diagnostic paperwork.

·       Assist the Deputy Head for Inclusion/SENDCo in the transition process for Year 6 – 7 students and other new starters during the admissions process.

·       New staff induction process including how to use Edukey.

·       Deliver toolbox talks/CPD around different areas of SEND.

·       Hold and complete paperwork for annual reviews and other SEND meetings where needed.

·       To offer and advice and support to teaching staff in providing a quality first teach approach, under the direction of the SENDCO.

·       To deputise for the SENDCO in matters relating to SEN.

Reporting Procedures

  • Regarding pupils, all safeguarding concerns must be reported, immediately, to the safeguarding lead, or members of the senior leadership team or any other designated manager at a pupil’s referring organisation.
  • All safeguarding concerns must also be reported

·       Develop and maintain effective partnerships between parents and the school’s staff so as to promote students’ learning; communicate effectively; providing information to parents about targets, achievements and progress.

·       Develop effective liaison with external agencies in order to provide maximum support for students with SEND.


Person specification

·       A qualified teacher holding QTS.

·       At least 2 years experience working with students with SEND.

·       Aspirations to train to become a qualifies SENDCo in the future.

·       An understanding of how to support students with SEND in the classroom.

·       An ability to support staff using clear communication skills.
