Due to growth and expansion, we are opening a new Serenity school Maidstone in September 2024.

We are seeking an experienced SENDCO Assistant to join our team in Maidstone

This role is to start as soon as possible.

Non Teaching role

Hours: 38.5 per week (full time or part time option)

38 weeks per year term time


The SENDCO Assistant will assist the SENCO in leading the provision for SEN within school, and:

Support the SENDCO in managing the implementation of an inclusive curriculum.

Manage appropriate resources for Special Needs and Learning Support and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively, and safely.

Develop curriculum resources to ensure that pupils have the required levels of support.

Within the context of the academy’s aims and policies, work with the SENDCO to develop and implement intervention groups and support.

Provide the support, challenge, information, and development necessary to sustain motivation and secure improvement in learning.

Support the learning of students as allocated by the SENDCO and in coordination with Directors of Learning.

Manage and maintain provision maps. 

The SENDCO Assistant will also be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.


Duties and responsibilities

 Support the provision of SEN, including the allocation of support time and the writing of Pupil Profiles.

To liaise with relevant outside agencies to ensure that individual pupil SEN are met effectively and that the requirements of statements of SEN are met fully.

Ensuring that accurate and detailed records are kept of meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies.

Ensuring that staff are kept informed of pupil’s SEN and advise on areas to develop and support.

Working with the SENDCO and other staff to ensure that Pupil Profiles are used to set subject specific targets and match work well to pupils’ needs.

Using data effectively to identify pupils who are seriously underachieving and where necessary create and implement effective plans of action to support those pupils. 

Contribute to school self-evaluation, particularly with respect to provision for pupils with SEN or a disability

Work with early years providers, other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and other external agencies

The SENCO will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow school policies and the staff code of conduct.

The post holder may be required to do other duties appropriate to the level of the role, as directed by the SENDCO.


National Award for SEN Co-ordination, or a willingness to complete it within 3 years of appointment [note: this is a requirement under the SEND Code of Practice]

QTS, PGCE or equivalent is essential

Teaching experience (two years minimum)

Involvement in self-evaluation and development planning

Experience of conducting training/leading INSET

COS available for qualified applicants currently on a Tier 4 visa.
