Job overview

The Bourne Academy welcomes students of all abilities and from all backgrounds. We pride ourselves on looking after the wellbeing of our students and our staff. Staff take the time to get to know and understand each student, supporting them to do their very best. We want all our students, whatever their ability, to ASPIRE.

At the Bourne Academy we are proud of the support we give to our students who require a little bit more help to achieve their goals. That is why we employ two SENDCo's to work between KS3 and KS4.

You should have passion for ensuring every child can access the curriculum whatever their ability. You should be comfortable in leading a department and contributing to the whole school support of our young people. Most important of all you should be the type of person who likes a challenge, believes in their own abilities, wants to lead and make a difference to the lives of others. SEN need is not a barrier or an excuse, it a reason why and we work to to ensure that every student has access to the curriculum and succeeds in their learning.

As SENDCo you will:

  • Ensure an inclusive and innovative curriculum for all students with SEND.
  • Assist the Director of Learning and Subject Leaders in developing courses which deliver a relevant, exciting and differentiated curriculum for all students with SEND.
  • Advise staff on and work with students who have Emotional & Mental Health issues which affect their ability to learn.

In return we will invest in your personal development through our excellent CPD programme which is led by our Assistant Principal; Teaching & Learning.

The Bourne Academy

The Bourne Academy is at the heart of the community of East Howe, offering local families an excellent education, new opportunities and facilities that are available to everyone.  It aims to raise students’ expectations, build their self-confidence, and teach them appropriate skills that allow them to build a successful career and contribute to society.  Our sponsors are Canford School, a leading independent school.

Canford believes that good education depends crucially on the relationships that are built up between staff, students, parents and the other stakeholders.  Mutual support, pride, ambition, trust and high expectations all combine to allow impressive educational achievements against a background of respect for each other and an acknowledgement of each other’s contributions.

Key to building these relationships is the pastoral care at the Academy and the links between the Academy, parents and others in the local community, helped by the academy’s central location in East Howe.
