Experience and qualifications are essential. The successful candidate will be flexible and be willing to work hard as part of the school team to ensure all pupils receive the utmost attention and support for their special educational needs. Millennium Primary School prides itself on its inclusive culture and nurturing environment where every child is given the opportunity to succeed. We are a two-form entry primary school, based in the heart of Greenwich next to the O2, with a Designated Provision for children with ASD and a high number of children with SEND needs across the school.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDco) with a proven track record of improving standards and raising pupil outcomes. As an experienced SENDco, you will develop an exciting curriculum that suits every type of learner and have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of our young people. The successful candidate will be a committed team player with excellent organisational and motivational skills. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead a successful faculty drawing on your extensive teaching and leadership experience. 

We are currently undertaking the IQM for inclusion and would require someone to lead us to the eventuality of the status of Flagship School for Inclusion. 

You will have:

● A degree-level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status

● A SENDco qualification

● Track record of delivering ‘outstanding’ teaching.

● Experience of successfully working with challenging pupils who have additional social, emotional mental health needs

● Understanding of strategies for meeting the needs of pupils with SEND

● A good knowledge and understanding of the statutory requirements of legislation concerning safeguarding, equal opportunities, Health and Safety and SEN.  

● A good knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and The Engagement Model and practical application strategies for meeting the special educational needs of students in a mixed ability classroom. 

● the confidence to practically support children in the classroom in addition to supporting our team of teachers with planning during their PPA.

● Knowledge of effective teaching and learning styles and how they can be used effectively for individual children. 

● Good planning and organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. 

● Excellent communication and influencing skills, the ability to work as part of a team and line manage other staff. 

● Flexibility in your working day and be willing to cover classes if needed, lead group work with children and work in collaboration with the DSP lead.

● Resilience and the ability to work under pressure. 

● A creative approach with the ability to look at improved ways of working.
