Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a SENDCo to join the Senior Leadership Team at this 11-18 Church of England School. The role has arisen due to the retirement of the current post holder.

The SENDCo will work under the direction of the Head Teacher to lead and manage SEND provision at Hutton, ensuring that all students with special educational needs and disabilities are supported to achieve high standards of progress and attainment, while also nurturing their personal development and well-being. They will also play a key role in supporting Year 6 to 7 transition.

The post-holder will be responsible for developing the school’s SEND policy and provision, including providing guidance and support to staff to ensure high quality teaching of SEND students across the school. They will also act as a line manager for the Teaching Assistants in our Learning Support Team.

This will be a key role within the school’s Senior Leadership Team and is an opportunity for an experienced colleague to contribute to the strategic leadership of the school. We are looking for someone who has completed the required qualification for the role of SENDCo and has an excellent track record of supporting SEND students. 

Hutton is a regularly oversubscribed single sex boys school from 11-16 with 736 students currently on roll. The school is co-educational from 16-18 with 139 students currently on roll. The school was judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in May 2017 and ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by SIAMS in February 2018.

Hutton Church of England Grammar School is based in Hutton, Preston, in Lancashire. The school, which opened in 1552 is a religious establishment that is a part of the Church of England. It is boys only, voluntary aided, secondary school with a sixth form. It educates boys between the ages of 11 and 18. At present, there are approximately 858 pupils enrolled at the school including 152 students on the roll in sixth form.
