We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and qualified SENDCo who is able to lead on the provision of SEND across the school. The candidate will need to have a great passion and interest for working with pupils who need the support to develop their learning abilities and to be able to build a good rapport with the parents, staff and pupils.
Main Responsibilities:
- To lead and develop the SEND team
- To deal with the day-to-day running of the SEND Department.
- Lead by example and act as a strong role model to pupils and staff.
- To organise the Teaching Assistant timetables and cover.
- To liaise with external agencies, including the Educational Psychologist and the Speech and Language consultant.
- To carry out SEN Support Plan review meetings and update the SEN Support Plans.
- To maintain an up to date record of pupil interventions in the SEN provision map.
- To complete relevant paperwork for pupils requiring access arrangements, liaising with the agencies involved and ensuring that relevant arrangements are applied for and evidenced.
- To be the lead practitioner for Mental Health.
- To lead on our Looked After Children and EAL pupils.
- It would be useful but not essential to be trained as a DSL.

The school is located in the beautiful West Somerset countryside in the town of Minehead. Built on a large, central site, the Middle school accommodates 605 pupils aged 9 -13 and employs almost 100 staff.
The school premises now combine the best of modern design with the beautiful old grammar school buildings, creating a secure and welcoming environment which supports and enhances the learning of all our children.
The school boasts spacious playing fields and play areas on a 10 acre site. There is a large hall which is used for assemblies, lunch and theatre performances and a separate, large well equipped gymnasium. There are also specialist rooms for music, science, design and technology (DT) and art.
