Job overview

Are you looking for a fresh challenge?

Would you like to join us in our exciting journey of expansion?

Would you like to lead a team and drive forward our Special Needs path in our Specialist School as a member of the Senior Leadership Team?

The Place Independent School is for pupils with Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH). The school opened a few years ago and we run from Year 2 to Year 13. Over the next year, due to pupil numbers, we will be expanding the building (across 2 sites) and growing the team to those who would like to join this journey with us. This role will be based on our Secondary Site but experience of secondary is not compulsory as the job will be across both primary and secondary children.

This is a new role so you will have the opportunity to lead and develop the area your own direction with support of the current leadership team. You will also have an assistant SENDCO who will help you with the administration and operationally through running meetings and editing EHCPs.

Ideal for those that want a new opportunity and have grown out of their current role. This is an opportunity for experienced SENDCOs only- or someone with experience that can drive standards higher. Only the best for our children who have already had such vulnerable starts.

We believe that all our pupils are entitled to high quality learning experiences, where we support their needs holistically. Our young people are very able and aim for a variety of BTECs, AQA Awards, Functional Skills, and GCSEs but need that extra sparkle and shine in order to achieve their very best and make accelerated progress. Some young people have been out of school a long time or have not been able to access education- therefore you need to be able to think creatively and out of the box. Although some of our pupils are neurodivergent linked to ACEs, there is no glass ceiling and we stand proudly with this philosophy.

Experience of special school is not required as long as you have a willing and passion to work with children with Mental Health and trauma.

Role purpose:

To determine the strategic development of SEND policy and provision in school. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of SEND policy and co-ordination of specific provision and support in partnership with colleagues and stakeholders.

Job role:

  • Leading and managing the SEND provision across the school, providing personalised specialist intervention support
  • To ensure SEND policy is put into practice and objectives are reflected in the SEF and SDP
  • Managing the registration of all young people and acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Maintain and provide up to date knowledge of national and local initiatives that may affect the school’s policy and practice

In return, we can offer you:

  • A collaborative ethos, working with other schools in our organisation and colleagues. This includes an experienced SENDCO in our partner school.
  • Competitive salary
  • High quality CPD
  • Annual performance reviews with opportunity for development and salary increase
  • Staff laptop
  • Opportunities for career development and professional qualification opportunities.
  • A chance to be part of an exciting journey
  • A thorough induction process
  • Grounds and resources that can aid and support learning
  • Enthused team that think outside of the box
  • An opportunity to positively impact (to a great extent) the futures and lives of our children
  • A staff wellbeing and mental health focus throughout all our decisions
  • Lunch and refreshments provided for free.
  • Free car parking
  • Access to discount, cashback and voucher scheme

Visits to the school are needed to secure an interview unless extenuating circumstances are communicated.

Salary can be discussed at time of interview for those that are exceptional.

Please contact our Head Teacher: Charlotte Hardy (see careers page for the number or email charlotte @ theplaceindependentschool .co.uk

(We are aware of resignation dates and can be flexible with the start date).
