Job overview

Newhouse Academy – part of the Hollingworth Learning Trust – has an exciting opportunity for a SENDCO to join our academy from spring or summer term 2023.

We are looking for a great practitioner and in return, will offer the support of our Senior Leadership Team and dedicated SEND staff.

The ideal candidate will…

  • Hold qualified teacher status;
  • Have a degree in a relevant and appropriate discipline;
  • Be dedicated to improving the life chances of students at Newhouse Academy and share our drive towards ensuring that all students reach their desired, ambitious destinations;
  • If an experienced teacher, you will have credible results in your subject area over time.

You will also need a further, postgraduate qualification – National Award to Special Educational Needs Co-ordination, (NASENCo), or be open to undertaking this course and completing it within 3 years of taking up the post.

The need to think strategically about SEND provision within our Academy is vital for this role. You should also possess the drive to build and develop your own team and be able to articulate how you, along with that team, will improve the outcomes of the students you work with.

Our academy has been chosen as one of 50 schools nationally to gain £20m of government funding for building development, part of which will see a brand new suite of SEN classrooms.

Newhouse Academy is a comprehensive secondary school, situated close to the M60 in the town of Heywood. We work closely with our partner school, Hollingworth Academy, (an outstanding local secondary school); and are on a school improvement journey to deliver rising academic standards.

With academy values of Aspiration, Integrity and Respect, we are embedding an ‘Our People’ culture through everything we do and our high expectations of both students and staff are bearing fruit. We are delighted to have been the best attended secondary school in the borough in 2021/22, (something we plan to emulate during this coming academic year). GCSE examination results for 2022 showed improvement across the board and the number of students achieving a 5+ in English and maths increased by 12%.

This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark at an academy that started its improvement journey in 2020. We believe in providing a world class education for students and are committed to the continuous professional development of staff.

If you have a strong character, energy, credibility and the ability to inspire; if you can motivate and challenge others; we’d love you to join us in taking this journey.

In return, we offer:

  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension scheme
  • Funded CPD for nationally recognised qualifications
  • A package of health benefits
  • Free use of gym facilities
  • Staff activities, including a Wellbeing Café, running/cycling/walking group, ‘Cake Friday’
  • Ample car parking
