Putting students’ needs first, because they know that once they understand the young people’s personal needs and individual learning styles they can provide the right level of support to enable them to learn more effectively and achieve their full potential. Working with students to prepare them for adulthood, whether that be further education, training or employment. 

The main purpose of the role:

As our SENDco, your role will be to deal with the most complex students alongside teaching staff and be responsible for embedding SEN interventions across the school. You will establish and promote an inclusive approach to SEN across the whole school, as well as overseeing all interventions and monitor and track the effectiveness of these interventions.

Key duties:

  • Establish and promote an inclusive approach to SEN across the whole school Oversee the Annual Review Process with the assistance of an administration assistant
  • Be a key liaison with Local Authority EHCP Coordinators and all professionals in the field on the most Complex students.
  • Contribute to providing high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences, appropriate to the class group, by supporting the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Support Teachers & Teaching Assistants and their CPD and have input into the specialist Inset required for teaching staff
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure that all relevant information regarding students is effectively communicated to support their development and wellbeing at all times
  • To oversee all interventions and monitor and track the effectiveness of these interventions
  • To contribute to the CPD by offering training and support to staff.
  • Ensure that students performance targets are set, monitored, and reported and that provision mapping is completed.

 Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications:   

  • SENCO/Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications preferred, or the desire to acquire
  • Qualified Teacher status

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge
