This is an exciting time to join Care Perspectives Ltd as we look forward to the opening of our new SEN School (New Perspectives School)

New Perspectives School is a small independent SEMH specialist day school for key stage 2-5, catering for students with social emotional and mental health difficulties who may have a range of complex needs.

Applications are welcomed from SENDCO professionals / qualified teachers who have experience of working directly with children or young people in any setting and who are willing to work with others as part of a highly organised strong team, providing excellent communication, superior support to colleagues and learners. The SENDCO will be responsible for designing and delivering interventions with Learners in the classroom and implementing SEN strategy. There will also be the requirement to have some classroom teaching duties.

Job Tasks:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the school SEN strategy and policy.
  • Carry out assessments of pupils with SEN to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers and parents/carers.
  • Assess prospective pupils with EHCPs (Education and Health Care Plan) and their needs to make recommendations on the suitability of provision for individual pupils.
  • Liaise with Local Authorities to gain access to existing EHCP plans for new pupils.
  • Work with Teachers, mentors & the Head Teacher, parents/carers and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans in-line with Education and Health Plans.
  • Provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents.
  • Coordinate and participate in EHCP review meetings.
  • Make referrals and consult with professional bodies outside of - this could include psychologists, health and social care providers etc.
  • Coordinate with the Examination Officer and Head Teacher to ensure that special access arrangements are applied for and put in place for SEN pupils taking exams.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to colleagues on supporting pupils with SEN
  • Support colleagues to differentiate learning and activities for pupils with SEN
  • Manage and advise on applications for High Needs Funding where relevant.
  • Ensure information regarding learners with SEN is recorded accurately and in a timely manner on the schools MIS.
  • Analyse , local and national data and develop appropriate strategies and interventions to ensure progress of SEN pupils
  • Support the work of Teachers, Learning Mentors to improve Learner progress and attainment
  • Keep up to date with national and School policies related to SEN and cascade information to colleagues.
  • Be able to use presentation, computer and software applications or equipment effectively.


The ideal SENDCO will:

  • Have a strong commitment to raising educational attainment for young people with SEN, including working with Learners directly and supporting other staff to do so
  • A willingness and ability to develop specialist knowledge and keep up to date with local and national policy and developments
  • Influencing and negotiation skills - to influence strategy and policy, secure sufficient internal resources, and secure the necessary support and funding from external agencies/Local Authorities.
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviours and working with children with SEMH and SEND
  • Leadership skills - to inspire and motivate Learning mentors, model good practice, and develop an overall commitment to supporting Learners with SEN
  • Interpersonal skills - for building relationships with parents/carers, Head Teacher, Teachers and external professionals
  • Be a good communicator including written communication skills - for writing learning and support plans, reports on Learner progress, and training and guidance for staff 
  • A strong flexible team player
  • Have a willingness to contribute to department and whole school projects.
  • Organisation and time-management skills - needed for prioritising and balancing a busy and varied workload
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence, for recognising and responding sensitively to, the needs of Learners and parents/carers
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - necessary for analysing, local and national data and developing appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work and lesson plans
  • Create a purposeful learning environment.
  • Teach engaging and motivating lessons informed by well-grounded expectations of pupils and designed to raise levels of attainment
  • Know how to make effective personalised provision/effectively provide differentiated tasks for those they teach
  • Safeguard all pupils in our School.
  • Engage in ongoing CPD.


Qualifications required:

  • Qualified teacher with QTS gained in England or Wales.
  • Recognised qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (e.g. NASENCO).
