Vision for Education are delighted to be working in partnership with a thriving 11-16 foundation comprehensive school in Wigan which is committed to challenge for all.  They provide learning opportunities to allow everyone to develop their knowledge, skills and character so that they can become outstanding young adults.

The school supports a number of pupils with complex medical difficulties, autism spectrum condition, as well as other needs.  The proportion of students who are disabled or who have special educational needs is above the national average.  This post is a vital appointment in terms of fulfilling their vision and ambition for their inclusive school to secure and enhance positive life chances for their most vulnerable students.

They are looking for a demonstrable unstoppable passion for supporting SEND students and those with barriers to learning.  It is essential that the applicant is an outstanding teacher, as much of the role will be to ensure that their teachers are meeting the needs of all the young people in their classrooms. In order to ensure the postholder’s credibility and to model good practice to others, the role will also encompass a teaching load.

Essential criteria for the post:

  • Qualified SENDCo or willingness to take National SENDCO Award Masters level qualification.
  • Substantial teaching experience (Qualified Teacher Status) and a proven track record of success for all SEN pupil groups.
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of the expectations within all the primary phases including EYFS and the National Curriculum.
  • A good knowledge of the SEND legislation and a sound understanding of best practice with regard to inclusion and pastoral care.
  • The role of SENDCo is a leadership post and the postholder would be expected to attend Senior Leadership Team meetings, play an active part in the strategic leadership of the school and line manage a large team of staff.
  • Experience of staff management and working as part of a team.

Our client place huge value on staff CPD and invest to ensure required training is available. They have been particularly successful with middle leaders completing the NPQML and teaching leaders programme – with one employee recently being awarded the teaching leaders special award.

How to apply

For further details about this role please contact Tracy Harrison at Vision for Education on 0191 267 6555.  The closing date is Tuesday 20th April 2021 at 9am, and interviews will be scheduled for w/c 26th April 2021.

Our client is an equal opportunities employer who is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants must be willing to undergo safeguarding screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS check.
