Job overview

The position supports the Governance leadership of AET. In particular it will work closely with the Head of Schools' Governance and the Head of Governance, Risk and Compliance, both of which are senior positions in the Trust, accountable to the main Board of Trustees.

It is a particularly exciting time to join AET, as the nation's largest MAT, at the beginning of a new chapter in its history. A new Governance Framework is at the heart of important new changes. Around 50 new Governing Boards are being established for each of our academies, with a consistent and professional approach underpinned by efficient communication, technology and processes built on the Google platform. A Governors Portal and a Policy Portal will be the primary focal points of this initiative, both projects allowing candidates to develop their skills in new technology and communications, and gain valuable understanding of how large multi-divisional organizations can improve.

Candidates should ideally be able to demonstrate some basic awareness of what the term 'good governance' means, either in an educational, charitable, or corporate setting, and why it is important. They should also have some interest in developing their knowledge and skills in this area, and AET will support appropriate professional training (e.g. National College of Teaching and Leadership), where this interest is expressed.

Candidates should be excited rather than daunted by the idea of participation in a change project. They should be capable of thinking critically about the user experience of existing AET systems and processes, and of being both sympathetic and firm, as appropriate, in the application of new ways of doing things.

The upside of such an environment is that it will allow them to demonstrate initiative for:

  • creative problem-solving
  • contributing to the design of new systems and processes which both raise standards and save time

We are looking for candidates who are energised by, and will take pride in, their contribution to improving the way we do things at AET.

In the first few months, much time will be spent in supporting the establishment of the new Boards, each of which must meet once per term. This will require efficient processes for scheduling and clerking, including the management of agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation. Although each Governing Board has its own Chair and Clerk, these would benefit from efficient central guidance and the development of a 'community of practice'.

Attention to detail in communications is essential, and a passion for good clear writing will be an advantage, and will open up opportunities to get involved in the drafting process for policies and general communications.

Being well-organized is clearly a pre-requisite, but more specifically, familiarity with Google Drive tools is essential.

Closing date: Wednesday 30 August 2017
Interviews will take place week commencing Monday 4 September 2017.

All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

In line with our safeguarding practices we are unable to accept CV's.
