Job overview

The IfT is a specialist graduate school for teachers. Our courses have a single purpose – to help teachers to keep getting better.

We believe that having an expert teacher in every classroom is the best way to make sure that every pupil, regardless of their background, gets a great education. But teaching is complex and becoming an expert isn’t easy. To improve teaching we must improve the training teachers receive because most of what’s out there isn’t helping them to get better.

That’s why we are doing things differently – re-thinking teacher education and providing a progression pathway to expertise that is taught by a faculty of expert teacher educators. Teachers deserve as much effort to go into their training as they put into their teaching.

We are looking for an exceptional leader and teacher educator to join our team to help us bring this vision to life. As Senior Associate Dean, Teacher Education, you will lead the delivery and development of our programmes that directly train teachers. As part of a small team of Senior ADs you will play a key role in further developing the culture, strategy, expertise and impact of the Institute for Teaching. You will line-manage senior leaders within our faculty who have responsibility for projects and programmes that sit within the domain of Teacher Education. Working closely with our design team, school partners, and academic advisory board, you will leverage the best available methods & materials needed to support your team in delivering high impact Teacher Education programmes.

In order to excel in this role, the post-holder will need to have a track record of excellent teaching and be an expert teacher educator. You will be able to inspire and influence not only your team to achieve very high stands of delivery, but also influence a wide range of stakeholders in the education system about what teachers need to learn and how they need to be trained. You will be passionate about evidence-informed practice, open to and hungry for professional improvement and obsessed with the detail of pedagogy and practice of both teachers and teacher educators.
