Bring your creative editorial skills to help us empower teachers

This is a great opportunity to join the creative and friendly team that defines how OCR supports teachers.

Resolutely customer-facing and operating a little like a publishing house, we spend our time researching, attending conferences and speaking to teachers to ensure we make the right decisions about what resources to produce and when.

The Senior Commissioning Editor is responsible for planning large-scale research projects and long-term customer engagement plans, working with print and digital publishers, making key decisions on how to interact on endorsed and partner resources.

As well as synthesising and analysing the insight and recommendations made, you will help to develop the Product Support strategy and have an important oversight of all support projects and developments.  Always with an eye on the horizon, you will have the scope to plan future projects and engagement requirements.

We are a collaborative and forward-thinking team who really enjoy working together.  We share ideas and best practice, working with both internal and external stakeholders in productive and innovative ways.

This role offers great flexibility for your own personal development, along with the scope to support and develop your team members.

A great opportunity to make a positive contribution to OCR’s fast-developing support offer and wider strategy.

What you’ll be doing

A varied and creative post, the Senior Commissioning Editor will lead a relatively new and growing commissioning team, responsible for keeping its finger on the pulse of areas where teachers need support, commissioning resources and CPD as required.

Fostering and guiding a pro-active approach to digital and print publishers, you’ll lead a team of two, the Commissioning Editor and Publisher Relationships Manager to propose creative and innovative solutions to areas of customer needs.  Reviewing monthly insight reports you’ll incorporate suite-specific insight into future Product Management.

Building a firm and time-aware knowledge base of teacher needs, worries and problems, you will be responsible for spotting trends to dictate reactive support projects.  Comfortable making decisions to support development and research priorities, you’ll share support insight across the business which will shape Product future strategies.

What we’re looking for

With a background in either publishing or resource development, whether that be print or digital for the UK schools/colleges market, you’ll have experience of delivering against a range of customer research and engagement projects.  Excellent people skills and ability to work constructively with others, you have examples to share of commissioning for education products or services, with evidence of managing customer or market research.

Knowledge of digital services is key as are established line manager skills. You will find satisfaction in helping your team develop to their full potential.

Skilled in briefing design, with IT and analytical skills, you will be comfortable negotiating and communicating at all levels.  You’ll have a meticulous attention to detail, you make or may not come from a teaching background – we welcome applications from all industries.
