Job overview

KAA is a growing 11 – 18 academy situated in the heart of North Kensington. We opened in brand new buildings in 2014 and our facilities are second to none. We currently have 660 students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 12 with us, and are growing every year. Our Sixth Form opened this year and has made a very successful start.

At KAA we are building a school which has the very highest standards – both in terms of academic teaching and life beyond the classroom. In July 2014 the Department of Education reported we are “one of the best new academies they had ever seen” in terms of our planning and curriculum development. In November of that year we were inspected by Miriam Rosen, for HMCI, who wrote “the academy has made a remarkable start and is already securing highly positive outcomes for students.” We look forward to our first full Ofsted inspection in due course and aim to achieve ‘outstanding’ in all areas.

We offer a quality and standard that are unique in the state sector. We are partnered with the Godolphin & Latymer and Charterhouse independent schools and LAMDA and the Royal Academy of Dance. Situated in stunning new buildings, we have facilities to rival any school.

The Role

KAA has grown to a large size and now requires an experienced, talented and committed senior data manager to oversee all aspects of data within the academy and provide strategic leadership of our data systems. The successful candidate will work with our existing data team and coordinate all systems and procedures relating to data capture, use and analysis in the school. They will work closely with the Vice Principal to ensure all aspects of the academy timetabling and assessment systems work smoothly and accurately. They will ensure other aspects of the school database, e.g. the behaviour and attendance modules, operate effectively. And they will provide training and guidance to senior and middle leaders and teaching and support staff as required to achieve the above.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a whole school improvement plan for data and the use of SIMS across the school, covering all aspects of our current work: targets, assessments, behaviour reporting, attendance, admissions data, census etc. Work with the existing two members of the data team to execute this plan.
  • Where issues are occurring within the database – e.g. inaccuracies of student details – suggest and then implement strategic solutions to these.
  • Create, share and refine on an ongoing basis the data reports and analysis the academy produces for governors, senior and middle leaders, teachers, the local authority and Ofsted. Reports to be produced both from SIMS and Excel.
  • Provide strategic support to middle and senior leaders on how to access and analyse data within SIMS.
  • Supporting the construction / scheduling of the school timetable.
  • Lead the parent reporting from SIMS and other systems (e.g. ALPS) so that parents have regular, accurate and easily understandable reports on their child’s progress.
  • Work closely with the IT Team to continue the ongoing integration of the school’s SIMS with other school software.
  • Stay abreast of changes in national policy relating to examinations and assessment, including changes to RAISE online and national headline measures of student outcomes at KS2, 4 and 5.
  • Track the progress of sub-groups of students (e.g. Pupil Premium) relative to national benchmarks and highlight the emergence of any gaps to managers in a timely way.
  • Comparing and analysing staff predictions against outcomes in public examinations.
  • Be familiar with and ensure compliance with all current legislative requirements, i.e. data protection, copyright and computer misuse etc., and advise staff, as appropriate.

Deadline: Apply by Wednesday, 2nd November at 9am.

About Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA)

The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea is a fantastic place to work. KAA is situated near Portobello Road, full of great shops, restaurants and bars. The school is part of the inspiring new £66 million pound Kensington Academy and Leisure Centre campus. All academy employees benefit from discounted membership at the leisure centre. KAA is located in the heart of West London with excellent access to the tube network (Central, Hammersmith & City and Overground lines) as well as many bus routes.

Judged by the DfE to be “one of the best new academies we have ever seen”, KAA is an exemplary start-up school in which all teachers can flourish. Teachers receive intensive training and support and benefit from personalised coaching and mentoring.

KAA has secured prestigious partnerships with a number of high profile educational organisations. We work closely with our partner schools Godolphin & Latymer and Charterhouse, and our performing arts partners LAMDA and the Royal Academy of Dance. We are also a member of the Prince’s Teaching Institute.

Recruitment and development of exceptional teachers will always be the first priority of our school. The much quoted 2007 McKinsey report into effective education systems concluded, “no education system can exceed the quality of its teachers.” Of course, the same is true of any school. At KAA, teaching and learning is our core business, and we focus continually on improving our classroom practice. Our internal training, coaching, mentoring and lesson observation systems are of a national standard. So, whether you are at the start of your teaching career, or someone with many years of experience in the classroom, if you come and work for us you will be given professional development opportunities which are second to none. This means you will need to be reflective, open and committed to your ongoing development. “At KAA we are all learners” is one of our mantras.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of the growth of our school as we are joined by our second cohort of sixth formers. Our Sixth Form opened in September 2016 and offers students an experience that is totally unique in the state sector. No other school can boast the incredible facilities, elite partnerships, and expert teaching which we have here at KAA. As we continue to grow, our staff have also been able to grow and access new opportunities to further progress their career.
