Job overview

Outwood Grange Academies Trust seeks a senior developer to develop and deliver software solutions to meet the needs of an innovative and expanding organisation.

The Digital Services team, in conjunction with our Data and ICT teams, provide bespoke solutions to track student attainment and behaviour, manage websites and automate business processes. Our systems are used daily by thousands of staff members and tens of thousands of students and parents.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering software projects and be comfortable participating in all stages of product development, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.

You’ll be joining a small but growing team and have the skills to take ownership of projects to see them through from inception to delivery. You’ll be working across the full stack from backend to frontend, and have a high bar for code quality and design.

We’re seeking a candidate with fantastic communication skills, capable of articulating complex concepts to stakeholders of all seniority levels. You’ll have opinions on good engineering practices and help to shape our processes as the team grows. We’re committed to developing junior and apprentice engineers, so you’ll have opportunities for mentoring and coaching early-career developers.

The systems we develop have highly variable usage patterns, so you should have experience delivering scalable solutions that maintain a positive user experience through significant spikes in user activity. Most of our current development occurs in Elixir with Phoenix, and we also maintain a suite of Ruby on Rails applications. If you’ve not got Elixir experience, don’t worry; we’re seeking someone with enthusiasm, a passion for learning, and an interest in working with these technologies.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, driven professional to join our Family of Schools. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’.

Please note that there is currently a job evaluation exercise being undertaken across the Trust. The salary advertised for this post is therefore subject to job evaluation and may change.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.

About The Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT)

Interim Chief Executive Officer: Lee Wilson

The Outwood Grange Academies Trust was born out of the success of Outwood Grange: a large school with 2,200 students, which has achieved record results for the last decade.

As one of the highest performing Family of Schools in the North of England, we have transformed education and outcomes across a network of 40 primary and secondary academies. Working closely together and sharing best practice, our schools do whatever it takes to ensure that every child, irrespective of starting point, can realise his or her full potential and unique talents.

Whether you’re joining us as a support staff member, an ECT, in a leadership position, and everything in between, we will invest in you and your development throughout your career.

By all working together, supporting and motivating each other, we believe we can raise current standards, and transform the lives of our students. If, as a Trust, we support you to help you reach your potential, we can help ensure all the children you teach will also reach theirs.

Please note that you are wholly responsible for fact checking in respect of the information provided by schools. Please also check for the latest visa and work permit requirements that may apply.
