Aim of the post

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Educational Assistant to join our team.   

Inscape House School is a non-maintained ASC specialist day school for children and young people aged 5 to 19 years. It is part of the Together Trust, a charity that has been providing care, education and support in the North West of England since 1870.

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults is a priority for all employees.

In addition to supporting the general learning and care of pupils across the school, the post-holder will provide cover for absent staff, including teachers.  The Senior Educational Assistant will also assume a lead practitioner and mentoring role for other assistants within the school.  They will have some responsibility for ensuring tier one strategies are implemented consistently in the classroom and pupil’s therapy targets are transferred and embedded.

Key responsibilities include but are not exhaustive;

• Support the needs of the pupils and curriculum, by assisting the teacher with preparation of equipment, photocopying of material for use in learning and by providing general clerical support for class-based tasks. 

• Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment and assist with displays of pupils learning.

• Monitor resource levels and contribute to the resource ordering process, ensuring minimal waste and maximising the effectiveness of financial resources to assure the requirements of the curriculum can be met in a timely manner.

• Build and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with pupils, families, multi-agencies, professionals and colleagues, to maximise pupils’ development and maintain the overall ethos and vision of the school.

• Work alongside the class teacher to deliver learning to support the academic achievement of all learners, through focused group learning, as directed by the class teacher.

• Support other assistants in the school through a mentoring process under the supervision of the Head of Department.

• Assist agency, bank and work experience college/university students during their placement within the school.

About you

Do you have a Level 3 or higher Teaching Assistant qualification or commitment to obtain such qualification within a given timeframe along with evidence of recent relevant professional development?

Do you have a minimum of two years’ experience of working with children with autistic spectrum disorders within a school setting as well as experience of successful work with pupils who present with behaviours that concern?

Are you a problem solver with the ability to identify, clarify, prioritise and solve problems as they arise?

Are you creative enabling pupils to be stretched and challenged to develop goals through the school day?

Can you cope with challenging behaviour with strong personal resilience?

Are you driven to help someone reach their potential?
