Senior IT Technician

Under the leadership of the Head of IT Operations, the Abbey IT team is responsible for the development and maintenance of the IT infrastructure, applications, and user support.

The Senior IT Technician will be responsible for supporting the school's technology infrastructure, ensuring its smooth operation, maintenance, and development. They will work closely with the IT Service Desk Manager to manage and troubleshoot issues within the school's network, hardware, software, and cloud-based services. The Senior IT Technician will also provide technical support and guidance to staff and students, maintaining a high level of customer service. They will also work with the Head of IT Operations to implement new and update existing infrastructure and services.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support the school's technology infrastructure, including the network, servers, storage, printing and software systems.
  • Oversee the school's computer labs, audio/visual equipment, and other technology-related resources.
  • Support the staff and students in the set-up of exams, providing laptops and assistance where required.
  • Provide technical support to staff and students, resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues, including school issued and bring your own devices.
  • Be a proactive member of the Service Desk - create, respond, resolve and escalate tickets where appropriate providing accurate documentation of troubleshooting steps taken.
  • Install, configure, and maintain software applications and operating systems, across various types of devices.
  • Develop and implement new infrastructure and systems within the school.
  • Assisting the IT team with large scale IT projects.
  • Research and evaluate new technology solutions and provide recommendations for purchase.
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager to ensure security measures are in place and updated regularly.


Qualifications

  • Previous or current experience as an IT Technician
  • Experience of providing 2nd or 3rd line IT Support
  • Professional qualifications ie MCSA, CCNA desirable but not essential


Required experience with the following technologies:

  • Windows 10, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
  • Hyper-V and Virtual Machines
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
  • Switching and routing, VLANS, Wireless technologies
  • Google Workspace Administration
  • Firewall rules and policies
  • Mobile Device management
  • Interactive Whiteboards
  • Backup and Replication software


Desired experiences with the following technologies:

  • iPads, Apple Macs
  • JAMF – MDM
  • Papercut Print Management
  • IP Telephony
  • Door Access System
  • MIS-ISAMS
  • 1:1 Device Schemes – Hardware, and software support


Personal Specifications

  • Experience of providing 2nd or 3rd line IT Support
  • Able to work effectively as member of a team
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to solving problems
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Understands user needs and has an awareness of providing good customer service. Previous school experience is not essential.

The Abbey School is a dynamic and vibrant community of more than 850 girls aged 3-18.

The Abbey is always in the top division nationally in academic terms. Our three year average of public examination results are excellent with 82.9% at A*- B and at GCSE 84.5% gained 9 - 7 grades. Leavers go on to an impressive list of universities and courses.
