The Role

As a Liberty Woodland Primary Cover Teacher (Senior Learning Associate), you’ll work with our Year 1 and Year 2 children two days a week and provide flexible cover across the primary school on your other working days.

On your regular Year 1 and Year 2 days, you’ll build strong relationships with the children and deliver engaging learning in their class den and our abundant outdoor space. When covering other classes, you’ll adapt confidently to different ages and routines, helping children feel settled and keeping their learning moving forward.

You’ll bring a strong understanding of child development and a love of learning through play, exploration and first-hand experience. Wherever you’re teaching, you’ll create a nurturing, language-rich environment that supports children to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Teach Year 1 and Year 2 two days a week, delivering engaging lessons in line with the Liberty Woodland School curriculum.

  • Provide flexible cover across the primary school on other working days, following plans and routines provided by class teachers.

  • Use learning spaces to encourage curiosity, independence and active learning.

  • Maintain a nurturing, well-managed learning environment with high expectations for every child.

  • Share relevant observations and feedback with class teachers to support continuity and pupils’ progress.

  • Contribute to projects and activities already underway, helping children connect their learning to meaningful experiences.

Whole-school organisation, strategy and development

  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s vision and values

  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school

  • Work with others on curriculum and pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes

  • Provide cover, in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach

  • Advocate to the greater public the value of the LWS education and outdoor learning.

  • Contribute to the leadership of identified areas within the school’s priorities

Safeguarding

  • Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the students.

  • Maintain good order among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and safe learning environment

  • Adhere to any relevant Policies about Keeping Children Safe, ongoing safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and Confidentiality

  • Work with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary

  • Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the school.

  • Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.

  • Support children's personal care needs where appropriate and promote children's independence in self-care routines.

  • Ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.

Communication and working with colleagues

  • Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school

  • Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues

  • Contribute effectively to maintaining positive relationships and community wellbeing

  • Build strong partnerships with parents and carers, maintaining regular communication regarding children's learning, wellbeing and development

Personal and professional conduct
