We are an ambitious Trust with a relentless desire to improve the educational outcomes and lives of the young people in our local communities.  We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Learning Mentor at The Sixth Form College Farnborough.

Our ideal candidate

The successful candidate will be someone who has excellent communication skills, is calm, positive, empathetic and patient. We are seeking a proactive individual to provide an excellent level of support to both staff and students in the College.

The job requires a proactive self-starter who will help manage the department and make decisions about student support.  They should understand the challenges faced by students and staff when supporting students with learning needs and complex difficulties.  

They need to pre-empt issues and resolve them in a timely manner by utilising excellent organisational and time management skills whilst working closely with all CAs, Registry, support staff, students, parents and outside agencies.  

The Department

Study Support is a fast-growing, dynamic department with the aim to provide excellent support, specifically to students on the SEND register, but also the whole student body and staff.  

The department currently employs 12 staff members in various roles ranging from assessors for exam access arrangements, to teachers, to Learning Mentors.  Apart from assessing for and providing exam access arrangements, the department supports students with Educational Health Care Plans, neurodiverse diagnoses and students struggling with anxiety and mental health.  

Workshops and appointments are also on offer to support students with study skills such as exam technique, revision, time management and organisation. 

The role

  • Start Date: 4th July 2022
  • 37 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday, 08.30 - 16.30 / 16.00
  • Term time plus 2 weeks in the holidays

The Sixth Form College Farnborough is a sixth form college located in the town of the same name, in Hampshire. Since September 2017, The College has been part of The Prospect Trust, a multi-academy trust. The College had originally been a grammar school founded in 1936, becoming a full sixth form college in 1992. The college is co-educational, with over 3900 students aged 16-19. Since its establishment as a sixth form, the college has undergone extensive redevelopment and modernisation, and as a result can boast of a wide range of high-quality teaching and recreational facilities such as a brand-new purpose-built teaching block opened in 2010 containing teaching facilities for physics, electronics and photography among others. Around a third of the students at the college are on mixed programmes of study combining A levels and vocational courses. The college offers 33 A-level courses, with the largest being in psychology and mathematics. Of the 11 vocational courses, the largest are in criminology and business.
