Job overview
Help young people live life without limits
At the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC), we believe every blind and partially sighted young person deserves the opportunity to thrive. Guided by our values of Trust, Energy, Ambition and Motivation, we support young people to develop the confidence, independence and life skills they need to achieve their ambitions and realise their full potential.
We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Learning Support Assistant to play a key role in shaping the educational journey of young people with vision impairments.
This is a rewarding opportunity to combine leadership with hands-on support, leading a small team of Learning Support Assistants while working directly with students to help them succeed both academically and personally. Every day, you'll contribute to creating an inclusive and empowering learning environment where young people can grow in confidence, overcome barriers and prepare for independent adult life.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Learning Support Assistant, you will:
Lead, support and develop a small team of Learning Support Assistants.
Work closely with the Hub Manager to ensure a consistent, high-quality experience for students across our Orpington and Bromley provision.
Empower students to develop their independence, confidence and learning skills.
Build strong partnerships with college staff, therapists, families and external professionals to deliver the best possible outcomes.
Monitor and record student progress, achievements and support plans.
Ensure accessible learning resources are available when students need them.
Act as a role model within the team, promoting best practice, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Carry out Learning Support Assistant duties on a day-to-day basis.
About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and confident in guiding and motivating others.
You will have:
GCSEs (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications) in English and Maths.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Experience of supervising, mentoring or managing staff.
The ability to support a team through key people processes, including one-to-ones, probation reviews, performance management and return-to-work meetings.
Strong organisational and ICT skills, including Microsoft Office and systems such as Databridge, CPOMS and Cascade.
A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and helping young people achieve their full potential.
Why join RSBC?
At RSBC, you'll be part of a supportive and passionate team dedicated to changing lives. You'll have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills, make a meaningful difference every day and be part of an organisation where your contribution truly matters.
We offer:
Perkbox employee benefits platform
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
3% employer pension contribution
Ongoing learning and development opportunities
A welcoming, inclusive and supportive culture
The chance to make a genuine difference to young people's lives
We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.
If you're looking for a role where you can inspire others, develop your leadership skills and help young people achieve their potential, we'd love to hear from you.

Please apply by emailing your CV and a supporting statement which details how you meet the requirements of the role and person spec to recruitment@rsbc.org.uk
