We are seeking an outstanding candidate to undertake a crucial pastoral leadership role, a role which is central to the development of Hayle Academy. We seek a candidate with presence, personality and great knowledge of student support. A candidate who will be able to integrate seamlessly into our team and hit the ground running. This is a key, public facing role within our academy and the successful candidate will be able to quickly establish positive relationships with students, parents, carers and staff, and will enthuse and motivate students in their journey through school. They will be passionate about access to education and determined that all students, regardless of background, are able to access a high quality offer at Hayle Academy. Learning is at the heart of everything we do; the successful applicant will need to have a passion for learning and a determination that all students can learn and achieve to their best potential, regardless of barriers.

The key foci of this post are: to lead the development of Key Stage 4 students, supporting excellent behaviour and conduct and working closely with parents and carers; leadership and support of tutors as they ensure the pastoral wellbeing of their tutees; undertaking the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (including shared responsibility for out-of-hours safeguarding), supporting a strong culture of safeguarding across the academy. The successful candidate will be given full support with any training needs for this role.

Hayle Academy currently has 483 11-16 students on roll. In its most recent Ofsted (April 2015), the school was rated Good. Our vision is to create a unique, outstanding, vibrant learning community; a place of learning excellence for everyone. We are proud to be part of the Truro and Penwith Academy Trust.

This is an exciting time to join Hayle Academy, as we seek to become beacon of excellence in Cornwall. We see our staff as our most important resource and the successful candidate will have our full support in their ongoing career development.

Please email your application form to: Miss Andrea Daddow, Headteacher’s PA, at andrea.daddow@hayleacademy.net. Please note that CVs will no t be considered.

Hayle Academy is committed to the safeguarding of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory checks and references, including a DBS check.

On behalf of the staff and governors or Hayle School, welcome to our school. We thank your for your interest and hope that this information and the information on our website will help you understand the values and principles which drive and guide us to provide the best opportunities for our young people.

We are a good school (Ofsted 2015). We have been steadily improving over the last three years with the key headline 5A*-C including English and Maths rising from 49% in 2013, to 52% in 2014 and 59% in 2015 (English results are in the top 4% nationally for progress). Our favourable reputation is spreading and we started this year with just under 40 more new students than we expected, spread across all year groups. Our budget is healthy and Governors have worked hard to maintain a constant reserve to see us through these challenging times.

Teaching methods at Hayle School combine the best of modern technology with the traditional values of care and discipline.

We expect high standards of achievement, effort and behaviour from everyone. We believe that success, at whatever level, can only come through teamwork and working partnerships between dedicated staff.

Hayle School is a friendly, caring community school. Our motto is Be the Best You Can Be, we apply this to every member of our community and to everything we do.

In keeping with our motto we think and work in terms of individual students, their academic tuition, their interests and their future career needs. We believe that students must be active partners in their life at our school if we are to encourage positive and appropriate development of their abilities, their characters and their personalities. We are proud that once again we have no NEETs in 2015.

We look forward to meeting you and invite you to join our team.
