Job overview

Marlborough College Malaysia (2017-2018)

Senior School Head of Physics (for August 2017)

Marlborough College Malaysia is a co-educational boarding and day school that opened in August 2012. The school is situated in 90 acres of the Iskandar region of Malaysia close to Singapore and Johor Bahru.

In 2017-2018, there will be a total of around 380 pupils across the five year groups that make up the Senior School (Years 9-13).

The campus also provides for pupils aged from 4 years old (Reception) up with the full roll next year at around 850. Boarding operates in Houses accommodating boys and girls in Years 5-8 and Years 9-13. Over the next five years the College will grow to a maximum capacity of 1200 pupils.

The school is not a franchise but a genuine expansion of Marlborough College in the UK and is managed and governed by people who have a strong association with Marlborough.

Most teaching staff live on campus in their first year and are expected to contribute towards the life of a full boarding school. Residential leadership roles may be available as Housemaster/Housemistress or Resident House Tutor. As a general expectation, all applicants should be prepared to participate in the co-curricular programme (including occasional weekends) and carry out a tutor duty once per week in the evening. IB Diploma pupils in Years 12 and 13 have timetabled lessons on a Saturday morning.

We are seeking a Head of Physics to lead a department of three teachers providing IGCSE and IB Diploma qualifications to pupils in Years 9 to 13. The successful applicant would teach Physics across Years 9-13.

Interest or experience in the following could also be advantageous:

  • IB Diploma / IGCSE
  • Pastoral care of pupils, particularly in a boarding environment
  • A co-curricular passion, be it sport, outdoor education, the arts or service

Employment Package

In addition to base salary, the College offers an attractive package including accommodation and utilities, meals during term time, global health insurance, school fee remission, reimbursement of flights every two years and reimbursement of shipping costs.  Salary is taxable at Malaysian marginal tax rates and some benefits provided are deemed taxable as a benefit in kind

There may be additional positions available in the Prep and Senior School later this year: teaching couples are encouraged to apply even if an exact combination of subjects is not advertised at this time.

How To Apply

Please send a covering letter (no more than 1 side of A4), and a completed application form to recruitment2017@marlboroughcollege.my

Information regarding the school can be found at www.marlboroughcollege.my.

Closing date for applications: Friday 4th November, though interviews may take place before this date in Malaysia, at Marlborough College, UK or by Skype.
