St Mary’s Primary School is a mixed, independent, mainstream, Roman Catholic primary school in Warners Bay, New South Wales. It has over 360 students enrolled and caters to pupils from kindergarten to Year 6.

St Mary’s Primary School was founded in 1959 by the Sisters of St Joseph. The school still has strong links with the parish and works hard to provide a Catholic education for all its students. The school is a member of a system of schools in the Catholic Diocese of Armidale. St Mary’s was the first school in NSW to sign a School Community Education Partnership Agreement to work with the indigenous community to help assist Aboriginal students’ learning.

Principal

Christopher Fanning

Facilities

The school has facilities that include interactive whiteboards, a library, a computer lab and computers in all classrooms. Children in Year 5 and 6 also have the added benefit of having 1:1 access to tablets.

Curriculum

Literacy and numeracy is put at the heart of  St Mary’s curriculum. The teachers work collaboratively as a professional learning community so that they can cater to each individual student’s needs. Teachers have been trained in the MiniLit Reading program. They also have an orientation and transition programme to help struggling readers and to guide new pupils’ transition into the school. Extra-curricular activities include choir, drama, swimming, rugby and chess.

School ethos

The school aims to be a "Catholic school whose ethos is based on Gospel values and a partnership between parish, home and school. It offers a happy, welcoming environment in which all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential". Everyone is meant to emulate the school’s ‘Seven Kinds of Best’ approach: the believing, learning, achieving, community as well as kind to themselves, others and the environment.
