Job overview

Queenwood is a non-denominational Christian girls’ school with an active and engaging K-12 Music program. Our sequential classroom music lessons commences in Kindergarten and continue through to Music 1, Music 2 and Extension, as well as International Baccalaureate music courses. We also have a vibrant extra-curricular music program catering for instrumental, vocal and compositional programs in all stages, incorporating a range of choirs, orchestras and bands. 


We are creating the opportunity for two passionate, part-time music teachers to join our Junior School and Senior School to deliver a combination of classroom music lessons for Years 3 to 12. Our ideal candidates will be experienced classroom teachers who share a deep love of Music and the ability to foster in young people a love of music.


There also is the possibility of an additional curriculum co-ordination role. This role will require an understanding of the NESA Creative Arts K-6, Music 7-10 and Music Stage 6 syllabuses, with proven ability in planning and implementing a sequential K-12 Music program. A knowledge of Orff and Kodály approaches to music education is desirable.


Both positions are to start Term 1 2020; however, the commencement date may be negotiable.

Facilities

Queenwood School for Girls plays home to a 25-metre pool specifically built for water polo, an all-weather court, five state-of-the-art science laboratories and a tiered lecture theatre. Queenwood’s Art and Design campus adjoins Balmoral Beach. Students also have access to specialist precincts for drama and music, a rehearsal and recording studio, modern library and technology centres and the 600-seat Astra Theatre.

Curriculum

During their primary years, teachers focus on bringing together students' creativity and commitment in a safe, supportive learning environment for young minds. Queenwood's primary curriculum is structured so that girls gain a deep understanding of diverse subjects, beyond the core English and Mathematics. Specialist teachers ensure girls pick up skills in Art, Music, Computing, Drama, French, and research and critical thinking at an early age.

In their high school years, Queenwood School for Girls students are pushed to develop not only academic potential but also creative, sporting and interpersonal skills. Thus, the curriculum is tailored to be flexible. In Years 11 and 12 Queenwood offers both the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB), an internationally recognised alternative pathway to matriculation.
