Grey Court is a popular, thriving and well established oversubscribed secondary school, situated in Ham, Richmond having 1,600 students on record.

Grey Court School is a mixed secondary school serving pupils between the ages of 11-18. Furthermore our Grey Court sixth form provides an outstanding post 16 education which includes A levels and vocational qualifications at BTEC level 3. Our results are consistently amongst the best in state schools in London. Each year we help students secure places at the top universities in the UK, including Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities. We consistently outperform local and national schools in terms of our results, with nearly 50% of all GCSE grades awarded at 7-9 and 38% of all A Levels at A*/ A.

Situated on 22 acres of tree lined grounds, our first class sports facilities include immaculately maintained football and rugby pitches, two sports halls and access to Ham tennis club with its own clubhouse.

Grey Court School was established in 1956 and converted to academy status in 2012. This London secondary school has been rated as outstanding in all areas in March 2013, then in January 2018 and now once again in February 2024.

Headteacher

Mr. Christopher Rhodes

Values and vision

Grey Court School’s main vision is to support and nurture students so that they have the confidence to achieve to a high level regardless of the challenges they may face. The Ham secondary school wants to work in a solid partnership, where staff and parents unite to ensure that students are supported both at school and at home, and are taught the values of honesty, self-reliance and responsibility. It is important to Grey Court School that students are presented with a varied curriculum and it provides facilities to appeal to all. Grey Court School holds a specialist status in Science, Maths and Computing, along with a Sports England accreditation, Healthy Schools status and Artsmark Gold.

Ofsted

Following our latest Ofsted inspection in February 2024 Ofsted concluded that Grey Court “is a school where all pupils flourish and are kept happy and safe”, and that "all pupils experience a high quality of education". This built on the platform of excellence established when our school was judged as outstanding in all categories initially in March 2013 and then again in January 2018.

Teacher Training

Grey Court provides a comprehensive professional development programme for trainee, early career and established teachers. This is further enhanced through our membership of the Wandle Teaching School Hub; an alliance of schools in the London boroughs of Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Wandsworth, formed to provide ongoing development for teachers at every stage of their career.

Early Career Teachers

We work closely with the Institute of Education and the Wandle Teaching School Hub to provide a two year training programme for early career teachers (ECTs). This highly structured, in-house programme involves close mentoring, support and encouragement of new teachers, and exceeds the statutory standards of the DfE’s early career framework. Many of our ECTs go on to build successful careers at Grey Court.

Ongoing Teacher Training

We actively encourage staff to continue their professional development. This could be through courses provided by the Wandle Teaching School hub, through our in-house training and learning sessions, or through more formal routes such as the national professional qualifications.

Initial Teacher Training

As part of the Grey Court teaching alliance we co-ordinate placements for trainee teachers in schools across south west London and Surrey. Each year we work closely with universities and the Department for Education (DfE) to place post graduate (PGCE) and School Direct applicants either in our own, or in other local schools.

Training School

As a training school we value the continuous development of our staff and offer a full range of professional training opportunities including in-house and cross-MAT CPD and national leadership programmes.
