Salary : APT & C – Grade 7 (SCP 23-25)
Hours : 37 hours per week, term time plus five days
Working week : 8.00am to 4.00pm (finish at 3.30pm on Fridays)
Location : Royds Hall Community School
To commence on 1st September 2017. This is a permanent post.
We are looking forward to the appointment of an energetic and enthusiastic colleague to join our Science team. You will be responsible to the Head of Department in co-ordinating the use and development of practical resources and facilities, including the provision of guidance and support in meeting the practical requirements of the science curriculum. This will include liaising with all areas of the school and outside organisations. The curriculum areas include Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The role will also involve clearing equipment from the Science classrooms at the end of the day, ensuring the preparations for the next day, supporting all science staff with practical experiments by providing guidance and support. This role may also involve in-class demonstrations and helping some students with their practical work.
Key qualities/skills include:
- Experience of preparing and handling chemicals
- Experience of working in laboratory/science environment and the ability to design experiments
- An interest in working with young people
- Experience of management and supervision of staff (Optional)
- Numeracy and literacy skills to level necessary to undertake calculations, cash transactions and to produce reports and written correspondence
- Knowledge of ordering/maintaining stock
- Practical skills and ability to carry out repairs/maintenance
- Ability to use ICT software and packages to support learning
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and pupils both verbally and in writing
- Ability to provide relevant advice and support to teachers including assisting with classes/demonstrations
- Able to meet the physical demands of a technician role
- Knowledge of health and safety in a science environment
- Ability to work in a fast pace environment
- Able to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality

Royds Hall Community School
is a successful and over-subscribed through school providing high quality education for 1200 children from age 3 to 16 across three sites, with 11-16 students based in the Wilson Building, 4-11 at Luck Lane Primary and 3-11, including nursery, at Beech Primary.
