The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior SEN Officer to shape and influence at an operational level in terms of the service and leading the team as well as at a strategic level by informing approaches to adult pathways and opportunities for young people aged 14 and older with SEND who have EHC Plans.

The successful candidate will be resilient, have extremely high levels of knowledge in relation to the Children and Families Act 2014 and associated regulations and statutory guidance. You will have experience within the post 16 sector and have a high level of awareness of educational pathways for young people aged 14+ including, HE,  FE, supported apprenticeships and supported internships for example.

You will be highly skilled in the use of technology to manipulate and analyse data to inform practice with a strong background in leading teams. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to develop strong professional relationships with children, young people and their families as well as wider professionals, health, social care and educational providers. Above all you will have the highest expectations for all young people including employment and will have the skills and knowledge to make sure they are supported to achieve their aspirations and prepare for adulthood.

The successful post holder will primarily be responsible for overseeing the 14+ team as well as additional designated area of responsibility which will be agreed. You will support the Assessment and Case Coordinators in the management of complex cases and oversee the successful transition from year 11 to Post 16 and for in year phased transfer within post 16 institutions within the statutory timescales.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

About you

To be considered for this exciting position the successful candidate will have previous demonstrable experience in a similar post and possess the ability to assess the local area to effectively identify and meet the needs and improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND. You will be responsible for managing a team and reporting on performance to a range of stakeholders including parents and carers of children with SEND and young people with SEND. You will have excellent self-management and organisation skills and ensure that all communication is responded to professionally and within agreed timeframes. You will ensure that parents/carers and young people are clear about processes, where and how to access information and receive help when they ask for it.
