The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior SEN Officer to join our team to manage a small team of four Assessment and Case Coordinators (ACC). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our local authority is able to meet its statutory responsibilities for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in accordance with the requirements of the Children and Families Act 2014.

You will contribute towards the Local Authority and service achieving medium term and long-term financial savings by supporting the development of local services and liaison between stakeholders. You will have proven experience of implementing systems and processes that promote person centered planning, keeping the views and wishes of the child and young person central whilst upholding the principles of the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and meeting Local Authority expectations.

The successful post holder will have a designated area of responsibility for 14-25 year olds. You will support the Assessment and Case Coordinators in the management of complex cases and oversee the successful transition from year 11 to Post 16 and FE within the statutory timescales.

Your role will include liaising with outside agencies, providers and therapist when coordinating the LA’s response to First Tier Tribunal Appeal with the SEN Team Manager.

Your duties will include overseeing the process of transport applications and the review of the council’s policy to ensure that it remains reflective of current legislation and meet the needs of Camden stakeholders. You will be responsible for supporting the ACC in managing the referrals and placements in Camden’s additionally resourced provisions and special schools and lead on ensuring that these process are current and reflective of the Council’s needs.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

About you

To be considered for this exciting new position you will have previous experience in a similar post and possess the ability to assess the local area to effectively identify and meet the needs and improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND. You will be responsible for managing a team that is reported in the annual parent/carer and young people’s survey to be person centred, responsive, accessible and outcomes focused. You will ensure that parents/carers and young people are clear about processes, where and how to access information and receive help when they ask for it.
