Job overview

Full time peripatetic teaching post for a qualified and experienced Teacher of the Deaf to work as part of the Senior Management Team within the Hearing Support Team. You will line manage a team of Teachers of the Deaf working in East Cornwall and will be based mostly in the Liskeard area office. You will hold responsibility for leading on strategic elements of the Hearing Support Team plan. Initially this will include taking the lead to advise on Audiology development initiatives and associated training needs within the Team, but will be subject to change over time as focus for the Team evolves.

The Hearing Support Team is part of the Sensory Support Service and operates as a countywide team and has a successful record of inclusion of children and young people with hearing impairment within mainstream schools and also supports those in specialist provisions. Team members work closely with staff from the other SEN Support Services, working collaboratively to support settings, ensuring effective educational provision which provides positive outcomes for children and young people in Cornwall. Working with children and young people from birth to twenty five years, the Team has good working relationships with a wide range of agencies. A very high priority is given to in-service training and staff development and regular opportunities are given to meet other members of the team

The job will provide challenging and stimulating work across the age range and in a range of settings. The role is varied, and will include: co-ordination, leading, management and development of specific aspects of need identified through the Hearing Support Team plan; line management and coaching of Teachers of the Deaf; direct teaching of pupils with hearing impairment, working closely with parents and other agencies, and assessment, advice and training in schools as appropriate.

We are looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified Teacher of the Deaf who has good knowledge of Hearing Impairment and experience of working with children and young people in a range of settings.

You will be able to demonstrate your personal knowledge and skills within the field of Audiology, and be able to identify ways in which you have supported and developed the expertise of colleagues in this area.

We are looking for a person who is committed to inclusion and whose work is firmly rooted in making a difference to pupil outcomes and who will be able to work across the age range of 0-25yrs

You’ll be an enthusiastic team player interested in multi-professional holistic working. The ability to manage your own time commitments and workload is essential.

Since you will be responsible for the professional development of a team of Teachers of the Deaf, including their Performance Management, you will need to hold a mandatory qualification of Teacher of the Deaf. Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate previous experience of supporting the professional development of colleagues.
