Job overview

Job reference number: 210001H8

Are you an inspirational, passionate, qualified teacher of sensory impairment with a ‘can do’ attitude who would relish the opportunity to lead the enthusiastic and well-established Sensory Support Service in the beautiful surroundings of the Cornish coast and countryside? Are you innovative with a ‘can do’ attitude and some experience of leadership and management? If you are all of these things then this may be the job for you!

Children and young people from 0-25 with sensory impairment (hearing, vision and multi-sensory) are at the centre of everything the Sensory Support Service does. The peripatetic team works in a wide range of specialist and mainstream settings across the county and enjoys fantastic working relationships with families, schools, education settings and other professional colleagues.

The team comprises:  twelve Advisory Teachers of the Deaf; six Advisory Teachers of the Vision Impaired; three Teaching Assistants.  In addition, one member of the team has the MSI qualification.  A Highly Specialised Speech and Language Therapist also works very closely with learners with hearing impairment and two Habilitation Specialists work with those with vision impairment.

There is the potential for a relocation package for the successful candidate. A full induction process is offered with a mentor and training opportunities as appropriate.

If you would like to informally discuss this challenging

and stimulating role, please contact theresa.maunder@cornwall.gov.uk.

This position will be subject to a criminal record disclosure check.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified, the current Government guidance around social distancing and our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g. from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

Cornwall Council is committed to safeguarding and following safer recruitment principles to help make sure our staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children, young people and adults at risk. It’s a vital part of creating a safe and positive environment and making a commitment to keeping all service users safe from harm.

Fairness and inclusion are at the heart of our vision for Cornwall. In order to best serve our communities, we are striving to achieve a diverse workforce that is inclusive of all backgrounds, cultures and identities; e.g. race, disability, sex, gender, age, religion and sexual orientation. We are an equal opportunities and Disability Confident employer, and we will assess applicants on their merits.
