Sensory Support Worker - Permanent / Term Time Only
PURPOSE
To meet the needs of learners with Hearing and/or Visual impairments including in class support and out of class support to remove barriers to accessing learning and participation.
To encourage learner independence using support strategies.
To provide professional electronic and manual note-taking as required.
DUTIES
1. To provide a note-taking service in the appropriate style as required.
2. To provide sensory support to Hearing and/or Visual impaired students including: in class support, out of class support and support at unstructured times. This includes residential activities, educational trips or work experience.
3. To work closely with curriculum to encourage inclusive teaching practice including delivery of awareness information to staff.
4. To implement, record, review and adapt strategies throughout the academic year using student ILP and other college systems
5. To promote equality and integration for Hearing and/or Visual impaired students with curriculum and the wider college.
6. To develop and assist the integration of students by supporting the transition process and enrichment activities.
7. To develop and adapt VI/HI accessible resources and materials
8. To assist learners with the use of specialist equipment and software.
9. To liaise with the Student Support Manager to ensure student details, PEEPs, exam concessions and specialist equipment are in place.
10. To engage in continuous professional development.
11. Any other duties, of a similar level of responsibility, as may be required.
OTHER INFORMATION
SALARY SCALE: £19,438.46 pro rata, per annum
HOURS OF DUTY: 18 hours per week (38 weeks worked, per year)
