The role of Service Director, Education is responsible to the Executive Director of Education & Children’s Services and has specific responsibility for developing the strategic direction, policy and practice for education service across the City of Edinburgh. The post is responsible for providing leadership to a large number of front line and professional services with a combined value in the region of £400 million.

You will be responsible for the improvement and development of the service at both a citywide and locality level, provide effective leadership across the system in Edinburgh, seek out opportunities for service change and improvement, and ensure the delivery of a world-class education service. This is a great moment to join the council under a new Executive Director and team, with the potential to build links more broadly across schools, social care and criminal justice to improve outcomes for our most vulnerable children.

We are looking for an exceptional leader of education services with significant experience of leading change and a track record of setting vision and strategy, developing a high-performance culture and successful partnership working.
